White is the New Tan
With my 30th birthday looming up before me, I have decided to take steps to keep me looking at least 23.
1. Exercise. It's been so hard to get back into my routine since Shanghai! I tried to do an hour's worth of The Firm but ended up doing only 16 minutes. It's most likely my lack of determination, especially since winter will see me in bulky sweaters and coats anyway. There's nothing like the thought of bikini season to get all fired up about working out.
2. No more tanning! Goodbye "healthy" glow. I have to acknowledge the fact that tanning WILL make one's skin look like leather. Not that it's happened to me...yet. And I'm not willing to experiment on my skin to see if it DOES happen. So I will now be one of those people wearing big floppy hats and putting on sunscreen. Nicole Kidman takes scrupulous care of her skin and dares not allow her alabaster complexion to crisp under the sun. If she can do it, so can I. Hollywood's perception of the golden look is overhyped anyway. Will my sunless existence result in a Nicole Kidman-like English rose complexion or the transculent-like hue of the ethereal Emmy Rossum or, most likely, just a pale anemic-like version of me. We'll see in a year. Either way, I'll have the last laugh when I'm 50 and look 30 while the sunlovers are 50 and look 60. mwahahahaha...And, oh yeah, this is not just for vanity's sake - not tanning comes with another bonus: no melanoma.
So, do your best, 30! I'm not going down without a fight.
