I did GREat!
I had been studying my ass off the week before my GRE. Then, the day arrives (last Monday) and I sign up at the reception desk of the testing area, my head full of math rules and strategies, only to find out I couldn't take the test because I didn't bring my passport. I thought I had read all the ID requirements but apparently I skipped over the part that says non-U.S. citizens must bring their passports. I am such an idiot!

So I rescheduled for this past Monday. This past week, I did a 180 and did not study at all. I went out Friday night, went to a mall on Saturday and had a trip to Woodbury on Sunday. No studying. No last minute scramble to get all my formulas straight. I had taken about 7 practice tests the week before my first scheduled GRE and I pretty much knew what I would get. I had an average of 675 in English (the national mean was 467) and a 610 in Math (the national mean was 591). No matter how hard I studied, my scores never really fluctuated. I figured more studying just wouldn't do any good. My scores were set.

So I la-dee-dahed to the testing site, which made me 5 minutes late, when I should have gotten there 30 minutes before the appointed time. The guard who checked me in said I must be nervous. I said yes although I really didn't feel nervous at all. I just knew where I stood with respect to my score.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I did the writing section first. I think I just did eh. My score there was probably in the vicinity of the national average which was a 4.2.

Then I took the Math portion. I truly don't think I did that well. I was only halfway through when there were 10 minutes left. I guessed about 5 questions in the first half that I would call educational, but the second half were pure guesses. I couldn't even make educational guesses because I barely had time to read the questions. I just chose willy-nilly. I was resigned to an average score.

The English portion went a little better. I didn't rush too much at the end and I know that I definitely knew some answers. As for the others, I guessed as intelligently as I could.

With this Computer Adaptive Tests, they give you your scores at the end of the test. So, I took a look and crossed my fingers.

For English I got a 700. Not bad, I thought! Better than my average score and way better than the national average. Then I looked at my Math score and could not believe my eyes. I had to stare for another 10 seconds to make sure I had it right. I got a 780! What??? Could it be right? I was and still am a little bit in shock. I must be a freaking GREAT guesser. I'm tamping down on my happiness because I'm afraid the computer messed up somewhere and they'll tell me it was a big mistake. Damn, 780 out of 800. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would EVER get even near the 700s let alone in the high 700s. From an average of 610. It's so weird. Please don't let them have messed up...or at least, if they did, please let them not figure it out...ever.
